Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Ikioye Orutugu, has commenced a thank-you tour of key stakeholders in Anambra State following his elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

Orutugu, who recently served as the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, began the tour on Monday, August 3, 2026, with a courtesy visit to the Palace of the traditional ruler of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu II of Awka.

The visit was aimed at expressing the police chief’s appreciation to the traditional institution and people of Awka for their support, cooperation and partnership with the police command throughout his tenure as Commissioner of Police in the state.

Speaking during the visit, AIG Orutugu thanked the monarch for his steadfast support for the Anambra State Police Command and other security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace, security and public safety.

He said the achievements recorded by the command during his tenure were not the result of the efforts of the police alone, but were made possible through the collective support of the state government, traditional rulers, community leaders, security stakeholders and members of the public.

The AIG stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the police, traditional institutions and communities, noting that effective and sustainable security could only be achieved through a strong partnership among all stakeholders.

He therefore appealed to the traditional institutions and people of Anambra State to continue supporting the police and other security agencies in the collective efforts to keep the state safe and secure.

Responding, Igwe Gibson Nwosu, OON, Eze Uzu II of Awka, congratulated Orutugu on his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

The monarch commended the AIG for his exemplary leadership, professionalism and significant contributions to improving security and strengthening public confidence in policing during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Anambra State.

Igwe Nwosu expressed confidence that Orutugu would bring the same commitment and professionalism to his new responsibilities, while wishing him continued success and God’s guidance in the next phase of his career in the Nigeria Police Force.

The thank-you tour is expected to take the AIG to other critical stakeholders who supported the police command during his tenure in Anambra State.
