The Independent National Electoral Commission has granted political parties a three-day extension to submit the names and personal particulars of candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC said the new deadline is now midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The earlier deadline in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election was Saturday, July 11, 2026.

According to INEC, the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload their candidates’ details within the initial timeline.

“The decision to extend was based on an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council, on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the scheduled timeline,” the statement said.

INEC said the extension reflects its commitment to inclusivity while operating within the provisions of the law.

The Commission urged political parties to take advantage of the new window and ensure all required information are uploaded before the expiration of the deadline.

“The Commission encouraged political parties to take advantage of this window of opportunity and ensure that all necessary details are uploaded before the expiration of the new deadline,” Haruna stated.

The 2027 general elections are scheduled to hold in February, with presidential and National Assembly polls expected to kick off the electoral calendar.
