Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has challenged the federal government to release any available Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the kidnappers responsible for the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Yesufu made the remark in a post on her verified X handle early Saturday while reacting to the Federal Government’s criticism of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi.
The activist was responding to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who had asked Obi to apologise to airport authorities and pay a N25,000 fine over an alleged violation of parking regulations at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Keyamo’s demand followed Obi’s recent claim that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government was frustrating him and that there were attempts on his life.
Reacting, Yesufu accused the government of focusing on less important issues while citizens continued to face insecurity.
“Pathetic cowards! Let them bring out the CCTV of the kidnappers that took away children in Oyo or of the ones that have been terrorising citizens.
“Majoring in the minor is all they are freaking good at,” she wrote.
Her comments come barely a day after the Presidency announced the successful rescue of the 39 pupils and seven teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Providing an update on Friday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested during the rescue operation and are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, while several others were killed.
According to Onanuga, security agencies rejected the abductors’ demand for the release of one of their detained kingpins, who is currently facing prosecution for terrorism-related offences.
The victims were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, after heavily armed men attacked three schools in the Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area. The attack claimed the life of one teacher, while another was later killed in captivity, with the incident captured in a video that sparked nationwide outrage.
The 46 victims spent nearly eight weeks in captivity before security forces secured their freedom. The Presidency said security agencies would provide a detailed account of the rescue operation in the coming days.
