Leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State on Sunday staged a thanksgiving road walk in Ilorin, describing the event as a celebration of the peaceful conduct of the party’s primary elections and a renewed commitment to victory in the 2027 general elections.
The rally, organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, drew party supporters, elected officials and candidates who used the occasion to express gratitude over the outcome of the APC primaries while calling for unity among members.
Speaking during the event, the Kwara State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Alhaji Abdulateef Alakawa, said the procession was organized to appreciate God and the leadership of the party for conducting what he described as transparent and successful primary elections.
He noted that the emergence of candidates for various elective positions reflected the wishes of party members through the direct primary election process.
According to him, the road walk also served as an early mobilisation exercise for the 2027 elections and an opportunity for party members to reaffirm their support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“Power belongs to the people, and the people have spoken through the direct primary elections. We are grateful to God that the primaries were peaceful and successful, with our candidates emerging across the various positions,” Alakawa said.
Addressing concerns over aggrieved aspirants, he maintained that the APC remained united despite the contest, revealing that a reconciliation committee had already begun efforts to resolve grievances.
“In every democratic process, there will be winners and others who may not emerge. As far as the APC is concerned, we have no losers.
“The party has already constituted a reconciliation committee, and we are confident all issues will be resolved,” he added.
Also speaking, the APC candidate for the Kwara North Senatorial District, Dr Ahmad Muhammad, thanked party members and residents of the district for the confidence reposed in him during the primaries.
He also commended President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq for what he described as visionary leadership, particularly the decision to zone the governorship ticket to Kwara North.
Muhammad said the move demonstrated fairness and inclusiveness within the party, expressing optimism that the APC would retain control of the state in the next general elections.
“We appreciate the people of Kwara for giving Kwara North the opportunity to produce the next governor. Today’s rally demonstrates the confidence and support the people have for the leadership of Gov. AbdulRazaq and the APC,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the party’s electoral chances, he added: “We are confident of victory. APC has continued to enjoy the support of the people, and we believe that will be sustained.”
The APC candidate for Kwara South Senatorial District, Mr Olalekan Adewoye, also appreciated the party leadership and members for giving him the opportunity to contest on the party’s platform.
He described the APC as one united family, saying the outcome of the primaries reflected the collective decision of members across the state.
“I am grateful to God and to the leadership of our party for the confidence reposed in me. Without their support, this would not have been possible,” Adewoye said.
The Majority Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Barrister Oba Magaji Abdulkadri, said the large turnout at the thanksgiving rally underscored the unity and strength of the ruling party in the state.
“We are very happy. As you can see, everyone is in a joyous mood,” he said.
Abdulkadri also expressed confidence that the APC would remain the dominant political force in Kwara.
“The future in Kwara State is APC from top to bottom, by the grace of Allah. The future is very bright,” he said.
Responding to questions about opposition parties, he dismissed suggestions that the APC faced any serious challenge ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are not afraid. As our leaders have said, there is practically no opposition in Kwara.
“We will continue to remain united and work together for the progress of the party and the state,” Abdulkadri stated.
