The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa on Wednesday led a dialogue with school children focused on “Young Voices Promoting health,” describing the event as “extremely important” for building Nigeria’s future leaders.
Speaking after the session, the Minister said he was “so happy and so fulfilled to engage in this dialogue today with the school children.” The discussion covered personal hygiene, nutrition, immunization and disease prevention.
To drive it home, the Minister brought in real testimonies. A polio survivor now wheelchair-bound; a rubella survivor; a child who had measles and now lives with lifelong debilitation – blindness, deafness, and neurological impairment.
Dr Alausa stressed, “This advocacy shows the importance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu places on the heart and future of these children.”
The Minister framed the dialogue as reflecting President Tinubu’s priorities for the country. “You hear the President say over and over again, that the youth, they are the heartbeat of this nation,” he said, adding that the administration is committed to ensuring children “grow up healthy, they get the best education that is comparable to anywhere in the world, they’re kept safe, and they have an abundance of opportunities.”
He called the session “the beginning of more of this advocacy to come” and pledged more direct engagements with students.
“As a Minister, i have given them commitment that i’ll continue to do several of these series, sitting with the children, sitting with our school kids, talking to them about things that matter most to them.”
