The Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has lauded the National Sports Commission (NSC) for its bold and commendable decision to revamp the historic Muda Lawal Stadium, Asero, Abeokuta.

SWAN Chairman, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, in a statement in Abeokuta described the planned renovation as a timely intervention that will help restore the stadium to its glorious status as one of the foremost sporting facilities in Nigeria.

Ogunsiji noted that the Muda Lawal Stadium has over the years served as a breeding ground for talented athletes and footballers, while also contributing immensely to sports development in Ogun State and the country at large.

According to the Chairman, the decision by the NSC to give the facility a facelift demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to grassroots sports development, youth engagement and the revival of sports infrastructure across Nigeria.

“I want to commend the leadership of the National Sports Commission for recognizing the importance of the Muda Lawal Stadium and taking concrete steps towards its revitalization. This move will not only boost sports development in Ogun State but also inspire young talents to pursue their dreams in sports,” Ogunsiji stated.

He expressed optimism that the proposed revamp would attract more local and national sporting events to Abeokuta, thereby contributing to economic activities and youth empowerment in the state.

Ogunsiji also appealed to relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely execution and completion of the project in line with international standards.

He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to support policies and initiatives aimed at repositioning Nigerian sports for sustainable growth and excellence.
