The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has dismissed widespread reports suggesting a spike in the price of aviation fuel, insisting that such claims do not reflect the current market reality.
According to the Authority, the country currently enjoys a strong supply position, with inland stock covering 12 days and refinery reserves accounting for 62 days, bringing total national sufficiency to 74 days.
In a press statement issued by George Ene-Ita, Director of the Public Affairs Department, the agency clarified that Aviation Fuel pricing, like other petroleum products, is fully deregulated and determined by prevailing market forces.
He noted that the current Ex-Gantry price at Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemical Company (DPRP) stands at N1,879 per litre, which is slightly below the international benchmark of N1,900 per litre in Lagos as of April 16, 2026.
The Authority further revealed that a nationwide price survey conducted on April 17, 2026, showed retail prices ranging between N1,960 and N2,800 per litre. It stressed that the widely circulated figure of N3,300 per litre is inaccurate and misleading.
While reiterating its statutory role, the NMDPRA assured that it would continue to closely monitor supply dynamics and implement necessary regulatory measures to prevent supply disruptions and curb profiteering across the country.
The agency also commended stakeholders in the Aviation fuel supply chain for their sustained efforts in ensuring seamless distribution and availability, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding energy security nationwide.
