THE Delta State Police Command has recorded two significant operational breakthroughs, intercepting a substantial haul of hard drugs concealed in household items and recovering a firearm linked to an ongoing murder and cultism investigation.
In the first operation, at approximately 8:45a.m on 13th April 2026, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol (SHP) stopped a Sienna bus along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road.
During a routine but intelligence-informed search of the vehicle, which was driven by one Osuke Stephen, aged 47, officers discovered illicit substances hidden inside electric energy bulbs.
The seized exhibits comprising of 490 grammes of a substance suspected to be cocaine and 4 grammes of weeds suspected to be ‘loud’, a strain of cannabis.
Police sources confirmed the drugs were being transported to Abuja, and a manhunt for other suspects is underway.
In a separate development later that day, at around 8:45 pm, the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, recovered one pump-action gun with three rounds of live cartridges abandoned at the Ekigbo area of Ughelli.
The recovery is connected to the murder of Mr Alex Adanike on 15th January 2026 in Ughelli, for which three suspects have already been arrested, charged, and remanded.
The fleeing suspect, one Eddy Onose, who is believed to be a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity (also known as “ARO BAGGAR”), allegedly abandoned the weapon upon realising he was being trailed.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, PSC, ACIPM, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations and called for public cooperation.
SP. Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer, added that local vigilante groups are now assisting in efforts to apprehend the fugitive.
