The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the state government of complicity in what it terms the “illegal and unconstitutional” occupation of its state secretariat by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party has demanded that the APC state chairman, Chief Solomon Areyinka, vacate the premises immediately.
In a fiery statement released on Tuesday, the PDP claimed that the secretariat, located on WAEC Road, Off Mariam Babangida Way, Asaba, was acquired in the PDP’s name with all documents bearing the party’s insignia.
It was built, the party stressed, long before the APC came into existence as a political entity.
The PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo, said the situation was unprecedented, pointing out that the APC already maintains a separate state office on Anwai Road.
“Where in this country does a political party have two secretariats in a state?” the statement read.
“Chief Solomon Areyinka should know that he is now a member of the APC.
The PDP Secretariat and all the assets of the party did not defect with him to the APC.”
The PDP further warned that the Delta State Government, which it accused of aiding the occupation, should be aware that the property’s Certificate of Occupancy remains in the PDP’s name and has not been revoked.
The party vowed to explore “every legal avenue” to reclaim the property.
The statement linked the government’s actions to the PDP’s National Leader, Nyesom Wike, and his pledge to reclaim the party’s mandate in the 2027 elections.
“The State Government is doing everything possible to dismantle the structures connected to the PDP National Leader,” the party alleged.
Describing the situation as “an invitation to anarchy,” the PDP called on security agencies to take note.
It warned that Chief Areyinka and the state government would be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order.
In addition to the secretariat dispute, the PDP claimed that some defectors who left for the APC as far back as April 2025 were still illegally using the party’s bank accounts.
“We have already detailed the relevant anti-graft agencies to apprehend these fraudsters,” the statement added.
The party appealed to its faithful to remain calm while insisting that the ruling APC must accept constructive criticism and abandon any dream of a one-party state in Delta.
“Chief Solomon Areyinka is not the Chairman of the PDP Delta State, and so he cannot use property legally acquired by the PDP.
Our party has a State Chairman in the person of Dr. Peter Mrakpor, SAN, together with his executive committee,” the statement read.
The PDP expressed bewilderment that the APC now maintains two state secretariats – one at Anwai Road and the disputed property on WAEC Road – questioning the legality and logic of the arrangement.
The party insisted that even if the government had revoked the Certificate of Occupancy, which it denies knowledge of, there is no evidence the APC has legitimately acquired the property.
The party accused the Delta State Government of using its machinery to intimidate the opposition, linking the move to the influence of PDP National Leader, Nyesom Wike.
“This is not acceptable to us because it is a clear sign of trying to use the government’s instrument to intimidate us, which may create discord between the PDP and the APC.
It is an invitation to anarchy,” the statement warned.
The PDP further alleged that some defectors who left for the APC since April 2025 are still unlawfully operating the party’s bank accounts.
“We have already detailed the relevant anti-graft agencies to apprehend these fraudsters and make them cough out all that they have pilfered away from our treasury,” the party said.
While appealing to PDP members to remain calm, the party warned Chief Areyinka and the state government to desist from provocative actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to reclaiming its mandates at all levels, expressing confidence that the people of Delta remain loyal to the party that has held the social contract since 1999.
