. As Osun ALGON donates 300 motorcycles to security agencies

The residents of Ngandam village, Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government area. Anambra state, have been thrown into mourning mood following the murder of their son, Emeka Agwuncha, by four suspected cultists.
According to the blind and amputee father of the deceased, Emmanuel Agwuncha, “My son was invited by the suspected killers to the house of Dr. Okpala in Umuru village, and on arrival he was immediately attacked with machetes, blocks and clubs resulting in his instant death.
“This incident happened on the eve of Easter and they dumped the corpse in front of the gate of Agwuncha’s compound and left.
“We reported the matter to Nnobi police Division and five people that included Dr. Okpala, in whose compound the murder was committed were arrested.
Okpala was released on health grounds as I was told but that does not mean he has been set free.
“The suspects and the case file have been transferred to State CID by the DPO of Nnobi police Division and we are happy about that because relations of the killers called for settlement and the DPO gave some days for such but the meeting ended in fiasco and the DPO took the matter to Awka for more discreet investigation.
“We need justice in this matter. I am blind and my legs were amputated on health grounds , that I am still alive is because of this my son that they have killed just like that, without doing them anything.
I need justice on his death. The perpetrators can not be left to go scot free, I plead with Governor Soludo, Commissioner of Police. CP Ikioye Orutugu, and other good spirited individuals to come to my rescue,” he cried.
Also pleading for justice, uncle to the deceased who is based in Benin, Edo state capital, Anene Agwuncha, lamented that the death of Emeka has worsened the health condition of his father.
“From what I was told the killers invited him to Dr. Okpala’s compound and killed him with machetes, blocks and clubs there,and brought his corpse to Agwuncha compound gate,” he continued.
In his own reaction, Another Agwuncha uncle, that is based in Lagos, Humphrey, condemned in strong terms the alleged murder of Emeka and urged the police to ensure the culprits are brought to book.
Contacted on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer. PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga. (SP), pledged to make contacts adding that the incident has not been reported to him as at the time of filing this report.
The corpse of the deceased it was gathered has been deposited at a morque in a nearby community.

Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, on Tuesday, distributed no fewer than 300 motorcycles to enhance security in the state.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony, held at the state Police Command, Osun ALGON chairman, Abiodun Idowu, stated that the donation is aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of security personnel, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
He added that the initiative will strengthen community policing and ensure that no part of our state is left vulnerable.
He stressed that the distribution includes the Police, Department of State Security (DSS), Civil Defense, Vigilante, hunters, and local/community security agencies.
He said, “The motorcycles we are distributing today will enhance mobility, improve response time, and enable our security agencies to access difficult terrains, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
This initiative is aimed at strengthening community policing and ensuring that no part of our state is left vulnerable.
“I wish to commend the dedication and sacrifices of our security personnel.
Your courage, resilience, and commitment to duty continue to inspire confidence among our citizens.
We recognize the risks you take daily, and today’s gesture is a token of our appreciation and support for your invaluable service.”
He however, lauded President Bola Tinubu for granting financial autonomy, noting that such an initiative would have been impossible if not for LG autonomy.
“The provision of these motorcycles is therefore not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria.
“Your support underscores the power of collaboration in addressing societal challenges.
We appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for championing the struggle for the actualization of Local Government autonomy.
Today, we are witnessing some of the fruits it is bringing forth in the development of our communities”, he added.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, while lauding the ALGON for what he described as “thoughtful and impactful intervention,” assured the judicious use of the motorcycles.
He said, “On behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, the IGP, and other security agencies present here, I sincerely thank ALGON for this thoughtful, impactful intervention. Be assured that this motorcycle will be used judiciously.
Finally, I wish to thank President Bola Tinubu GCFR, for making this laudable gesture a reality by giving all the LG their autonomy.”
