Residents of Ejigbo-Orangun in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State have commended the local council chairman for grading over 9 kilometres of roads in the community, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
Community members who spoke with journalists on Sunday said the road project has significantly improved mobility, eased transportation challenges, and boosted socio-economic activities in the area.
According to them, the once dilapidated road had for years posed serious difficulties for farmers, traders, and commuters, especially during the rainy season when it often became impassable.
A resident of the community, Oga Paul, while lauding the initiative, stressed its positive impact on local trade, adding that the road will ease the transportation of farm produce to the urban communities.
Also a fruit trader, Funmilayo Ilesanmi described the project as highly significant to her business and others in the community, adding that it will improve access to neighbouring communities and markets, which have improved considerably.
She said, “I am a trader of all kind of fruit harvested in the community, this project is so significant because it will ease our transportation to neighboring town where we sell our goods because once it’s the raining season our movement becomes difficult our trucks get stuck in the mud and drivers have to pay as much as 10 to 20,000 to people to help in pushing the truck.”
The community head, Jimoh Oladele, expressed deep appreciation to the council boss for the intervention.
He noted that, “We are so happy today because we know what we’ve gone through with the level of decay on this road, and you came today to ease our pain. May God continue to bless you, because this road is shorter to Abuja and has been abandoned for years due to its bad state.”
They, however, called for the proper tarring of the road, with a proper drainage system to provide a permanent relief for the farmers and commuters.
In his remarks, the chairman of Ila LG, Adeyemi Atanda, reiterated his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, stressing that road infrastructure remains a key priority to enhance economic growth and improve the living standards of residents.
He assured that more rural roads would be rehabilitated to ensure better connectivity among communities within the Ila Local Government Area.
He, however, lauded President Bola Tinubu for empowering the LG councils with financial autonomy, stressing that the move will foster development at the grassroots level.
