The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Zuru has died in an undisclosed Egyptian hospital.
Zuru, who represented Zuru Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected Speaker at the inauguration of the 10th Assembly on June 8, 2023.
According to report, Zuru was receiving treatment in an Egyptian hospital in Cairo for an undisclosed illness when he reportedly passed away on Monday night.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Speaker.
Idris described the loss as “tragic and monumental” for the state and the nation.
Zuru, represented Zuru constituency and held the traditional title Lifiddan Zuru, died on Monday, April 6, at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed by the Clerk of the Assembly, Suleiman Shamaki.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, Idris said he was “devastated” by the passing of a trusted ally and key figure in Kebbi’s governance structure.
“I have received with profound shock and a heavy heart the painful news of the passing of Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru.
“He was a committed lawmaker, an outstanding leader, and a true patriot whose devotion, humility, and wisdom distinguished him in service to our state,” the governor said.
The governor described the late Speaker as a stabilising force in the legislature and a dependable partner in advancing the state’s development agenda.
“His death has created a painful vacuum in our leadership. His calm disposition, maturity in handling state affairs, and unwavering commitment to unity and progress will remain indelible in our hearts,” Idris added.
“Kebbi has lost one of its finest sons at a time when his experience, counsel, and statesmanship were most needed,” he said.
Beyond government circles, tributes have continued to pour in from political associates, traditional leaders, and constituents across Zuru Emirate, many of whom described the late Speaker as accessible, principled, and deeply committed to grassroots development.
Born on April 5, 1970, Zuru is survived by his wife and five children.
The governor prayed for the repose of his soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while urging the family, the Assembly and the people of Kebbi State to find strength in this difficult time.

Also, Veteran Nollywood actor, Davis Ofor, popularly known as Clarus, New Masquerade, is dead.
The news of his passing was announced on Tuesday by a fellow actor, Tony Akposheri, in an Instagram post.
Akposheri expressed shock and sadness over the death of the actor, recalling their recent interactions.
He revealed that they had recently spent time together during the New Year, sharing memories and discussing future plans.
“Today, my heart is heavy. Davis Ofor, fondly known as Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone.
“We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead,” he wrote.
“We spoke about life, about plans, about how far we had come. None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you.”
Describing the late actor as more than just a screen personality, Akposheri paid tribute to his character and impact.
“You were more than a familiar face on screen. You were a friend, a brother, a man with warmth, humour, and a presence that could light up any space,” he wrote.
“It is hard to believe that the voice I heard not long ago is now a memory. Hard to accept that someone so full of life can suddenly become a story we tell.”
He added, “Rest well, my friend. You came, you gave joy, you made your mark, and you will never be forgotten.”
Clarus gained prominence for his role in New Masquerade, one of Nigeria’s most popular television comedy shows, where his character became a household name.
Details surrounding the cause of his death were not immediately available.
Ofor rose to prominence for his role as Clarus in New Masquerade, a widely acclaimed Nigerian television comedy that aired on the Nigerian Television Authority and became a household favourite in the 1980s.
