The Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, Prof Shadrack Best, has reiterated the unwavering commitment of the university’s management to producing graduates who possess the intellectual acumen to compete with their counterparts globally.
Prof Best gave the remark that PLASU students are being groomed to stand tall in the international labour market and contribute meaningfully to societal growth during a high-level visit by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).
Describing the regulatory visit as a significant boost to the institution, the VC expressed absolute confidence in the faculty’s trajectory, revealing a bold strategic roadmap aimed at transforming the department into a premier centre for pharmaceutical excellence in West Africa.
“We have an ambition to make this faculty a big and reputable one,” he stated.
“Management is working tirelessly to engage the services of more experienced best eleven academics to meet the staffing needs.”
He called on the PCN to assist in identifying brilliant young graduates in the field to fill existing voids.
The pharmacy council’s delegation was at the university to inspect and verify the resources of the newly established faculty.
The Vice Chancellor acknowledged the current challenges regarding inadequate laboratories, office suites, and classroom spaces within the faculty.
However, he assured the delegation that the university is proactively working to address these threats to academic comfort, in strict alignment with the requirements submitted by the Dean of the Faculty.
Supporting this stance, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof Moses Pyefa, affirmed that the university management would provide all the needed equipment to support the faculty’s programmes to be successful and accredited.
In her remark on behalf of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Prof Busayo Olayinka, clarified that the visit was designed to ensure the university starts its pharmacy programme on a solid footing.
As the regulatory body for both training and practice, the PCN’s role is to verify that human resources and facilities meet the required standard of the profession.
Among the key recommendations from the PCN was the need for staffing, hence the university is expected to start recruitment and engage highly experienced senior staff.
