Troops of Operation Hadin Kai foil terrorist attacks, kill over 20 bandits in Yobe

CHIDIMMA UCHEGBU, Abuja

Troops of the JointTask Force (North East) , deployed in Goniri, under Sector 2 of OPHK , have successfully foiled coordinated attacks launched by ISWAP terrorists on their location in Goniri, Yobe State, killing over 20 terrorists.

The attacks occurred from the night of Monday, 9 March 2026, through the early hours of Tuesday, 10 March 2026, when the troops came under heavy assault from multiple directions.

According to the statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists were initially detected through surveillance assets advancing simultaneously from Goniri village and the Ngamdu junction axis in an apparent attempt to encircle the military location.

Impressively, the vigilant and gallant troops responded swiftly with superior firepower and tactical manoeuvre, effectively coordinating their defensive actions.

Reinforcements were promptly mobilised while the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided timely and decisive close air support, further degrading the terrorists’ combat capability.

During the intense firefight, the terrorists were overwhelmed and forced to retreat in disarray, suffering heavy casualties.

Over 20 terrorists were neutralised, including a senior terrorist commander identified as Abu Yusu, the Munzir of Dursula.

Following the failed attack, troops recovered several terrorist bodies along with weapons and equipment abandoned during the retreat.

Recovered items include multiple machine guns, AK-47 rifles, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bombs, and assorted ammunition of various calibres.

Further exploration and clearance operations by troops in the general area of Gwaigomari within the Timbuktu Triangle led to the discovery of additional terrorist bodies during follow-up patrols conducted up to the early hours of Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

Troops who sustained injuries during the encounter were immediately evacuated for medical attention and are currently in stable conditions.

The location remains firmly under the control of Operation HADIN KAI troops.

Ground forces, supported by the Air Component, are currently conducting aggressive follow-up operations in the surrounding areas. Additional search and clearance operations are ongoing in nearby communities where some wounded terrorists are suspected to have fled.

Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute and committed to the complete defeat of terrorism and the restoration of lasting peace and security across the North-East region.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry and resilience while urging them to sustain the operational tempo.

.As Tiv professors decry continued killings in Benue, demands FG’s intervention

The Forum of Ayatutu Professors (FAP) on Thursday condemned the continued attacks on communities in Benue, resulting to the killings and displacement of hundreds of innocent residents.

This was contained in a press statement jointly signed by Prof. Tor lorapuu and Prof. Simon Irtwange, Chairman & Secretary, Board of Trustees & Council of Management, which was made available to newsmen in Makurdi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that FAP is an association of all Tiv-speaking professors worldwide.

The forum observed with great concern the increasing rate of terrorists attacks on Benue people and the resultant effect of each attack on them.

FAP expressed disappointment over what it described as the Federal Government’s poor handling of the prolonged, organised attacks on the people of Benue and many other parts of Nigeria.

“The most recent horrific massacre in Mbaav and other villages in Turan, Kwande Local Government is abhorring and totally unacceptable.

“These persistent attacks have caused physical harm, leading to massive annihilation, loss of properties, and complete dislocation and disorientation of the poor and humble people struggling to live their daily lives.

“This is the objective of the enemy, to humiliate, cause intense fear, suffering, uproot and disorganise a people and forcefully occupy their spaces,” they said.

The forum said many countries of the world experienced terrorism but had overcome it, adding that Nigeria can learn from such countries and also tackle the unacceptable and dangerous vice.

“Evidence also abounds of the Nigerian Army success stories in assisting other nations to overcome civil wars, freedom fights, guerrilla fighters and even terrorist threats.

“Therefore, Nigerians are embarrassed that the story is different at home. Nigerians are more embarrassed that Nigerian soldiers are killed daily by these terrorists,” FAP said.

The Forum also questioned the purpose of the many security formations in Benue, if the people cannot benefit from their presence.

“We acknowledge and support the position of the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse for the immediate deployment of airstrikes on the terrorists.

“we call on every Benue citizen to be vigilant. Watch more, hear more and speak less.

“Our politicians must also note that their attitudes significantly seem to be shaping and determining the attitudes of their followers.

“This is not the time for disunity. All Benue citizens must stay awake to the existential threat before the people.

“We requests all the political leaders and political elites in the state to show more commitment and responsibility to the people by distinguishing between their politics and the lives and blood of their people,” it said.
