EMMANUEL NLEWEDUM, Port Harcourt
A northern political pressure group, the Northern Congress, has criticized Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communications, for his remarks on the Rivers State political crisis.
The group, in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Alhaji Uba Adamu, and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, expressed shock at what it described as an open display of bias by Bwala during an interview on a national television station, where he criticized Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, over the Rivers State political crisis.
Adamu said Bwala’s remarks were inappropriate and showed a lack of neutrality, as he allegedly took sides and undermined ongoing efforts to restore political stability in the state.
The Northern Congress also questioned Bwala’s integrity, citing his past association with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and accused him of opposing Tinubu’s ambition and the APC while serving in Atiku’s campaign organization.
They emphasised that the FCT Minister played a significant role in the 2023 general elections that led to President Tinubu’s victory, while accusing the presidential aide of previously opposing Tinubu, his ambition and the APC while serving in Atiku Abubakar’s campaign organisation.
The group demanded that Bwala either resign or be relieved of his appointment to prevent what it described as continued misrepresentation of the President, particularly on Rivers State politics.
They also called for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s replacement with a trusted ally, alleging he reneged on Tinubu-brokered political pacts and failed to deliver on campaign pledges.
They used the medium to declare their unalloyed support for Wike, saying the majority of northerners stood with the FCT minister, urging him to remain focused on his work in Abuja.
