The leadership of the Bayelsa State Educational Trust Fund (EDTF) has called for a collaborative partnership with the media to enhance public awareness and understanding of the board’s mandate, while promoting its activities.
The chairman of the EDTF, high chief Fidelis Agbiki, made the appeal yesterday during a familiarization visit to the federated correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa state Council.
He was accompanied by the executive secretary of the Fund, Prof. Ebimieowei Etebu, and other members of the newly inaugurated board,high Chief Agbiki, who also serves as the chairman of the publicity and sensitization committee of the board, emphasized the importance of media engagement.
He noted that the media had been a vital partner of the EDTF since its inception, and it was crucial to strengthen this partnership, reflecting on the recent inauguration of the new board in October of the previous year, Agbiki explained the importance of introducing the new leadership to journalists, ensuring their continued cooperation and support.
“We are here to introduce the third board since the inception of the EDTF, we appreciate the media for your unwavering support and we seek to maintain a productive partnership ,our relationship with the media has been invaluable, and we hope it continues to flourish,” Agbiki said, when you are a friend of the press, you are a friend of the community.”
In his address, Prof. Ebimieowei Etebu, the executive secretary of the EDTF, appealed to the media to project the board’s activities in a manner that fosters unity, development, and growth in society,drawing on his extensive experience in the educational sector, Etebu highlighted his longstanding commitment to youth development, stating that a vibrant, educated youth population is essential for the future of any society.
“As someone who has spent over thirty years dedicated to youth development, I firmly believe that an educated youth is the foundation of a thriving society,our mission at the EDTF is to ensure that the younger generation is empowered through education Etebu explained.
We urge the media to support us in projecting the board’s activities in ways that will promote unity and progress.”
The chairman of the federated correspondents’ chapel, Tife Owolabi, in his remarks, thanked the EDTF for the visit and for valuing the role of the media in its operations,he encouraged the board to continue fostering open channels of communication with journalists, ensuring transparency and accuracy in the dissemination of information.
“We appreciate this visit, and we are committed to maintaining a healthy relationship with the EDTF,” Owolabi said , we urge the board to always ensure that doors are open for journalists to verify facts and obtain accurate information.”
The meeting marked a significant step in solidifying the partnership between the EDTF and the media, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to supporting educational development in Bayelsa State.
