Prominent traditional rulers, security experts and political leaders gathered in Effurun, Delta State, on Saturday as Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (retd) and his wife, Mrs Roli Nesiama, gave their daughter, Oritsemoyogbemi Oritsetimeyin Nesiama, out in marriage to Uchenna Jeffery Anorue, marking a colourful celebration of cultural unity and generosity.
The well-attended ceremony, held at the Kratos Ballroom along Refinery Road in Uvwie Local Government Area, attracted notable personalities, including the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Pondi; High Chief Tunde Smooth; the Bolowei of the Niger Delta, Chief Francis Omatseye.
Also Brigadier-General Efe Edafioghor (rtd); Hon. (Chief) Julius Takeme, Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council; and Chief Oma Eyewuoma, the Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom, among others.
Conducted in line with Itsekiri customs and traditions, the marriage ceremony symbolised the union of two cultures, as the bride, an Itsekiri, was joined in matrimony with her groom from Igboland, Imo State.
The event featured rich displays of Itsekiri and Igbo heritage, with traditional dancers entertaining guests through music and dance.
Speaking with journalists at the event, Commodore Nesiama described the marriage as more than a family celebration, saying it represented “a unification of cultures, tribes, religion and businesses.”
He advised the couple to always remember the love that brought them together, noting that such remembrance would sustain them through future challenges.
Beyond the celebration, guests were treated to what many described as an unprecedented show of hospitality and empowerment.
What were intended as souvenirs turned into gift packages containing caps, T-shirts, ready-made wrappers for women, as well as food items such as garri, palm oil, seasoning cubes and detergents.
Several attendees were seen proudly wearing their gifts at the venue, while others reportedly went home with multiple packages.
The reception featured a lavish spread of continental and African dishes, complemented by assorted drinks, drawing enthusiastic reactions from guests, some of whom openly marvelled at the scale of the celebration.
Adding colour to the occasion, Commodore Nesiama and his wife made a lively entrance into the hall, dancing energetically in traditional attire, to the admiration and applause of guests.
The ceremony was widely described by attendees as memorable, not only for its cultural depth and high-profile presence, but also for the uncommon generosity that defined the celebration.
