AHMED MARI, Maiduguri
A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group in Borno state, under the Umbrella of PDP Stakeholders National Working Caretaker Committee (PDPNWCC) has called the factional National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, Governor Seyi Makinde and Governor Bala Mohammed to sheath their swords and embrace peace.
The Borno PDP group threw their weight behind Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), led faction of the party, commended him for providing the party with clear direction, and responsible leadership at a time when the PDP is confronted with serious internal challenges.
The Chairman of the Group, Dr. Grema Kyari at a press conference held at Lake Chad Hotel in Maiduguri, yesterday commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which on Wednesday, 24th December 2025, formally issued a press statement rejecting the outcome of the so-called Ibadan Convention, which produced Barrister Kabiru Turaki as National Chairman.
The group said that despite two valid judgements of the Federal High Court, the former National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, proceeded to obtain an interim injunction from the Oyo State High Court and went ahead to conduct what has been widely described as an illegitimate gathering rather than a lawful elective convention.
He notably conducted an election without the presence or supervision of INEC, as required by law.
In view of these undeniable facts, we hereby call on Barrister Kabiru Turaki, Governor Bala Mohammed (former Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum), and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to sheath their swords, embrace party unity, and realign their loyalty with our National Leader, His Excellency Chief Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, GSSRS, whose role in strengthening and repositioning the PDP is well known”, Kyari said
Kyari also called on the former Borno State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Zanna Gaddama, to immediately coordinate all former party executives, from ward level through LGA to the State level, to formally hand over all party documents, properties, and records to the newly constituted Borno State PDP Working Caretaker Committee, under the able leadership of Comrade Abbas Musa Jibrin (Chairman) and Honourable Haruna Audu (Secretary), within forty-eight (48) hours from now so as to commence the process of conducting fresh ward, Local Government and State Congresses in Borno State.
He further said “Wike’s steadfast commitment to discipline, constitutionalism, and institutional integrity remains unprecedented, especially in the face of sustained pressure and actions from Governor Bala Mohammed, Governor Seyi Makinde, Barrister Kabiru Turaki, which have deepened the internal crisis of
party.”
“We commend the Honourable Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Caretaker Committee (PDPNWCC) for its bold, timely, and lawful decision to dissolve the Borno State PDP Executive Committee and approve the constitution of a Borno State PDP Working Caretaker Committee, the group said.
“This decisive action has brought renewed hope to party members across the state and reflects the
aspirations of PDP faithfuls in Borno State who have long awaited justice and internal democracy, especially following what went wrong during the unfortunate Borno State Congresses of September 2025.”, they added.
“To this end, we hereby call on the former Borno State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Zanna Gaddama, to immediately coordinate all former party executives, from ward level through LGA to the State level, to formally hand over all party documents, properties, and records to the newly constituted Borno State PDP Working Caretaker Committee, under the able leadership of Comrade Abbas Musa Jibrin (Chairman) and Honourable Haruna Audu (Secretary), within forty-eight (48) hours from now so as to commence the process of conducting fresh ward, Local Government and State Congresses in Borno State.
“Let it be clearly stated that any attempt to resist this lawful directive shall amount to impersonation, and such actions will not be taken lightly under the law”. Kyari added.
