Ohanaeze Ndigbo holds AGM in Port Harcourt, passes vote of Confidence on President General

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide held its last Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year on Saturday, 20 December 2025, at Heloconia Hotels, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The meeting brought together members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to review the organisation’s activities over the past year and to chart the course for the coming months.

In his address, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, commended members of the NEC for their resilience, dedication and unwavering service to the Igbo nation throughout the year. He described their collective efforts as vital to the continued relevance and effectiveness of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation. Senator Mbata also briefed the NEC on the forthcoming Imeobi Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 23 December 2025, in Enugu. According to him, the meeting would feature the presentation of a reviewed draft of the amended Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution, alongside a compendium documenting the achievements of the present NEC during its one year in office.

Members of the NEC, in turn, showered the President General with accolades, praising his dedication, inclusive leadership style, benevolence, patriotism and evident selfless service to the Igbo nation. They noted that his leadership had fostered unity and renewed confidence within the organisation. In light of this overwhelming endorsement, the National Treasurer, Dr Peter Aneke, formally moved a vote of confidence on the President General on behalf of the entire NEC. The motion was seconded by the Rivers State President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Livingstone Wechie, and was unanimously adopted.

At the conclusion of the end-of-year meeting, members of the NEC paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House in Port Harcourt. Speaking on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Mbata expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for granting the audience. He commended Governor Fubara for his cordial relationship with the Igbo community in Rivers State and applauded his inclusive approach to governance, which embraces all ethnic groups in the state.

In his response, Governor Fubara thanked the Ohanaeze Ndigbo delegation for the visit and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting unity, peace and effective service delivery for the benefit of all residents of Rivers State, irrespective of ethnic or cultural background.

Several prominent Rivers State leaders and stakeholders were present to receive the delegation. The President General was accompanied by members of the Ohanaeze NEC and the Expanded Executive Council, including Prince Okey Nwadinobi, Deputy President General; His Excellency Emeka Sibeudu, Secretary General; Dr Mrs Ngozi Olejeme, Vice President General (Delta); and other senior officials of the organisation.

The AGM and subsequent courtesy visit marked a significant close to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide’s activities for the year, reinforcing its commitment to unity, good leadership and the advancement of Igbo interests within the broader Nigerian society.
