Osun 2026: APC defends consensus candidacy arrangement, says it drives peace, harmony in party

The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, on Friday presented the Certificate of Return to Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, winner of the Party’s recently concluded Governorship Primary Election and its flagbearer for the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election. The presentation ceremony, which took place at the Party’s National Secretariat, Abuja, was attended by members of the National Working Committee (NWC), Party officials, and supporters of the candidate.

…As Asiwaju Oyebamiji insists Osun needs serious manager to drive governance.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly defended its preference and choice of internal consensus arrangements in picking candidates for major elections in the country.

National Chairman of the party, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, explained that the process ensures rancour free primary elections through affirmation, reduces the process of litigations, acrimony and stiff competitions usually witnessed in other forms of internal democratic election processes.

Prof. Yilwatda made these remarks on Friday while speaking with newsmen at the APC National Secretariat, soon after handing over the Certificate of Return to Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, the party’s candidate for the Osun governorship election slated for August 2026.

The national chairman said, “We want to inform the world that we just minted a brand new candidate for Osun State Governorship Election set for August 2026 and it was done by consensus, which is a unique mode of election compared to other methods adopted by other political parties.

“The nine candidates came together and picked one person to represent them in the election. It shows the level of symbiosis and the goodwill and good relationship between the candidates and we know that the candidate is going to carry everybody along, not just in the primary election but also in the general election and also in governance.

“So, we are proud and happy to announce that Bola Oyebamiji will be the sole candidate of the APC in that election.

We have handed over to him his certificate of return and he is now, by this certificate of return that was given to him today, our candidate for the August 2026 election in Osun State.

“Having said that, the party is ready to stand with Osun people neck to neck and leg to leg. We will stand by them day and night from now until the day of the election to ensure that APC wins Osun state and wins the election convincingly.

Not just winning, but we want to win convincingly beyond any reasonable doubt for the election next year.

“So, we are mobilising our capacity as a party and our strength. We are muscling our strength to go back to Osun State to ensure that we campaign and work vigorously to ensure that we win the election,” Nantawe stated.

On his part, the APC Osun State Gubernatorial Candidate, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, in a brief remark, said: “Ladies and gentlemen of the press, let me first say that I am honoured today.

I am honoured and I am glad that I have this certificate of return. I want to assure you that Osun people are ready for APC to take the mantle of power from the dancing governor.

“The business of governance is a serious business and we have a lot of human assets. We have a lot of material assets in the state of Osun and we need a serious manager to drive the assets and that serious manager is Bola Oyebamiji.

“Now that I have that mandate, we are going to carry that mandate forward and come 2026 and 2027, we are going to deliver Osun to the APC. We are going to deliver Osun to the president in that election.

“So, I thank you so much. I thank the national chairman and the NWC for this opportunity. I can assure you that we are going to make you proud.

“Yes, the second question about the other parties, I told you once when I came here last time that I don’t have a competitor. We are going to deliver and deliver Osun come 2026 and 2027,” Oyebamiji concluded.

We recall that governorship candidates of the APC in recent elections, in Edo, Ekiti, Anambra and Osun states were chosen through consensus arrangements, which the party stated helped in eliminating friction and litigations from aggrieved members of the party.
