Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday displayed his cooking skill as part of measures to celebrate 2025 Lagos Food Festival.
The annual event which took place at Muri-Okunla Park, Victoria Island, saw an exhibition of various foods to encourage businesses and providing platform for family members to have a nice break.
Sanwo-Olu said, “You have all been part of the Lagos Food Festival for this year which is some of the highlights of all of the events that have happened in the Ministry of agriculture and food systems.
They have done a lot of activations and intervention in the agric space in the food security space, they have empowered a lot of entrepreneurs, they have actually done so much this year as a to continue to put innovators and aggregatos in the food business to give them an opportunity to fend and to do well as entrepreneurs.
“But what you also have here is for families to now come out and enjoy and see the exhibition of various food culture and cullinaries of food.
“You can see that the whole place is filled up, I have also been put to a quick food chef. I actually cooked, I was turned to Chef Jide this evening which was like a seafood rice. And I tasted my own cooking as well.
“But it’s an old idea of families coming out, encouraging people in the catering, food space, and for us to be able to also use food to tell the Lagos story.
“There’s a small exhibition there as well. All of our various cuisines, all of our various dishes were also put on display.
“So it’s really for people to see, to understand, to appreciate that we are people, that is very fashionistic in all areas.
“Food is one in which you can show your arts, you can show your skill and we’re doing it as an opening opportunity for a lot of young talents. We’re opening up the smart people, and businesses are being transformed.”
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms Bisola Olusanya noted the Seafood Festival is a celebration of everything about Lagos.
She added, “The culinary culture, the tradition, the entertainment, I mean everything that makes Lagos. Lagos is very diverse, it’s very multicultural and so we believe that in celebrating everything that is Lagos, food is the embodiment of that and we as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, we are the curators and the custodians of that.
“It’s best that we celebrate all of our value food chain actors and the Lagos Food Festival is the place to do so. It also helps to give exposure to our food actors.
“So you have a lot of chefs here, you have culinary practitioners, you have restauranteurs, you have hoteliers, you have caterers. And this is a place where they are also able to mingle, able to network, able to solidify a hold on their businesses, expand and grow.
“We’ve had many stars made from the Lagos Food Festival just by reason of Mr. Governor cooking, tasting their foods and, you know giving a word of encouragement. It is an avenue to solidify all of our interventions over the years and to celebrate everyone that makes it possible for all of us to eat in Lagos.”
