In a bid to uphold its vision and mission, which hinges on providing leadership development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change, Junior Chamber International, Festac branch at its 19th convention and 20th Investiture, crowned Amb. Richard Igwu as the new president, where the group advocated the importance of youth empowerment and stressed that youths are the leaders of tomorrow.
In a media chat on how to move the TCI forward, Igwe said, “I fully accept this responsibility with an unwavering commitment to serve. This marks more than a transition and a new beginning into the bold vision. I’m grateful for our past leaders, who have strengthened this organisation and laid a solid foundation for us to work on. As I take the role as the President, TCI, I am conscious of the responsibility that comes with it. Leadership is not a title, leadership is service, vision and influence. However, my tenure will focus on the bold vision, building opportunities for leadership and development, writing our impacts, leading with courage and delivering sustainable results.
“I stand here not as someone who knows it all but as one who believes strongly in what we can achieve together. I’m committed to learning, listening and leading with transparency, courage and excellence. Let us all work together in unity and only build a future that reflects the values, vision of this organisation”.
Speaking on the theme, “Soaring Beyond Limits: Rising for Impact”, keynote speaker, CEO, Conegelics Consulting International Limited, Adenrele Onikosi, said, “I saw a document that says we have about 70 million youths in Nigeria, that is the work force of the future, that is the power house for development for the nation.
“First, the youths need to believe in themselves. There is no nation you go to that does not have their own problems or challenges, but the beautiful thing is that it is in problems that you have opportunities. So I want to tell our youths that they should look inward and see where they can fix the problem they see in Nigeria instead of complaining about the problem and also develop themselves.
“Skills will always trump certificates, yes certificates are good, but what skill do you have, what problem are you able to solve. Nigeria has problems, different sectors have problems, which of them do our youths want to look at and say “I want to be the solution to that problem”.
