The All Progressives Congress (APC) has prepared the ground for governorship aspirants to test their popularity by inaugurating the screening and appeals committees for the forthcoming Osun State gubernatorial primary election scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025.
The inauguration ceremony was conducted by the Party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru (OON), on behalf of the National Chairman of the party, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja.
Members of the Screening Committee include: Barr. Obinna Uzoh, Ph.D (Chairman); Hon. Raphael Nnanna Igbokwe; Hon. Ifeoluwa Arowosoge; Chief Meg Duru; Princess Farida Odangi; and Hon. Ahmed Sani. Amb. Usman Baraye will serve as Secretary.
The Screening Appeal Committee on the other hand, will be chaired by Senator Tolu Odeniyi, with Attorney Smart Iheazo acting as Secretary.
The committees are expected to complete their assignments and submit comprehensive reports that will be used for the conduct of the primaries.
Nine aspirants submitted their completed Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to the secretariat on Monday before the closing date and gave insights into what their administrations will do for the people when elected into office.
The Osun governorship aspirants included two former deputy governors, namely Senator Iyiola Omisore and Chief Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, who were among the first people to return their documents.
Other contestants are Alhaji Bola Oyebanmiji, Babatunde Oralusi, former Senator Babajide Omoworare, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, and Barrister Kunle Adegoke (SAN).
While addressing newsmen, many of the aspirants, including the two former deputy governors, rejected the idea of a consensus candidate and warned the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to repeat its Ekiti State experiment by opting for a consensus formula in Osun State.
The aspirants advised the party to allow for a free and fair primary election to hold to enable them to properly test their popularity.
Each aspirant paid the non-refundable fee of N50 million, comprising N40 million for Nomination forms and N10 million for Expression of Interest forms.
The Osun State Governorship election has been fixed for August 2026.
