PHIL OKOSE , Onitsha
Three hours have gone by and there is still no sign of officials of Independence National Electoral Commission, INEC with their electoral materials at the densely populated Ebenator and community, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
As at 11.20am, three hours behind the scheduled time for the election kick-off that is 8.30am
Voters are seen with pale faces as most of them left their routine engagements just to ensure they vote and for the candidates of their choice.
Expressing dissatisfaction, one of the voters who pleaded anonymity until he votes said, “So all these promises from INEC is a mirage. I wanted to do what I have indoors before coming but later decided to come and vote first, not knowing that these people are not serious.”
“I am disappointed in INEC and that is the problem we are having, who knows if someone has asked them not to come in favour of a particular candidate,” he fumed .
It was gathered that over 1000 voters are expected to cast their votes in Ebenator Nnewi but the absence of the INEC officials have proved them wrong by disfranchising them for now unless eventually the officials come.
“Even if they come when will they finish with the crowd that has been worried. The best is that extra time should be given if they come and do not finish before the limited time,” said another voter who pleaded anonymity.
Unfortunately today is the community’s market day, Orie Market and the voters left their businesses to come and cast their votes.
