6 Div Garrison wins Army’s 2025 Inter-Brigade competition in Rivers

The 2025 edition of the Nigerian Army 6 Division inter-brigade combat proficiency competition ended in Rivers State on Thursday, with the host, 6 Division Garrison, emerging as champions.

The five-day competition saw the 16 Brigade taking the second position, while the 63 Brigade took third and 2 Brigade fourth.

Our Correspondent reports that 6 Div Garrison came out overall winners with 5 trophies (both team and individuals) in the competition, which featured fitness race, map reading, combat swimming, shooting range and obstacle crossing contests.

The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Eric Emekah, congratulated the winners, 6 Div Garrison and commended discipline, professionalism, commitment and energy displayed by the various formations throughout the event.

The GOC, represented at the closing ceremony of the competition by the Chief of Staff, 6 Division Headquarters, Brigadier General Emmanuel Adamu, said the annual event was put together to bolster officers’ camaraderie.

Major General Emekah said the competition was also aimed at enhancing the officers’ physical fitness and endurance levels.

He charged participating officers to utilize the training acquired during the competition efficiently and positively across formations and units and prepare for future challenges.

He said, “The combat proficiency competition we just witnessed is an annual event organised to build team spirit among officers, more importantly, it is to enhance their physical fitness and endurance.

“As we conclude this year’s Inter Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition, I commend all participants for their exceptional skills, teamwork work and dedication.

Your individual and collective commitment to excellence has raised the bar and I am proud of the outstanding performance witnessed.

“To the winning formation, congratulations on your hard earned success.

To all participants, your efforts have contributed to the growth and development of our various Brigades and the Division.

“Let’s carry the lessons learned in this camaraderie forged here into our future endeavors. Well done and let’s continue to strive for excellence.

Also speaking, the Commander 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, said the victory of his officers in the competition is a testament to their combat readiness and training assimilation.
He said, “We just witnessed the combat proficiency competition for the young officers, which I was nominated to host.

“The Nigerian Army has a training cycle where we start training individual soldiers and groups, at the end of the training cycle and for the year, we have a competition to test all the formations and units to see which is best.

“For this event, despite hosting the event, the 6 Division Garrison happened to emerge the best, which means we assimilated the physical training and our combat readiness is better than the others as we have witnessed in the competition,” Brig. Gen. Ahmed added.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to top-performing teams and individuals in the competition.
