EMMANUEL NLEWEDUM, Port Harcourt
Another tragedy occurred in Rivers State on Friday after a truck conveying a twelve-foot container reportedly lost control on the Aleto Bridge and plunged into the river, along the Eleme axis of the East-West Road, which is still under construction.
The incident occurred five months after a Dutch expatriate and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rivers State Cassava Project Limited, Mr. Gibson Reuben, died in the same spot after his vehicle skidded off the bridge and plunged into the river while trying to escape from kidnappers.
Our Correspondent reports that the incident, which occurred at about 3 pm, did not record any casualties as the driver of the truck came out unhurt, according to an eyewitness account.
A community source told newsmen that the exact number of occupants in the truck could not be ascertained as at press time but efforts were ongoing to recover the truck and the container.
The truck, we learnt was heading into Port Harcourt from Eleme local government before it lost control and fell into the river.
The Police were yet to comment on the incident at the time of filling this report.
