Elder statesmen. Chief Bisi Akande in a statement said: “It is with profound sadness that I received the news of the passing of His Excellency, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd), GCFR, Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This loss is felt deeply across the nation, and beyond, as  Buhari’s influence extended far and wide.

“President Buhari’s leadership and contributions to Nigeria’s development, both as Military head of state and Civilian President, will be remembered for generations to come.

He served as the Military Head of state between January 1984 and August 1985. Years later in 2015, he was elected as President of Nigeria and reelected again in 2019. His leadership left a lasting impact on the nation.

“His commitment to democracy, stability, and progress in our great nation is a testament to his dedication to public service.

His leadership helped to strengthen our democracy and promote national unity.

“As we bid farewell to a remarkable leader, we honor his memory by continuing to uphold the values of unity, peace, and national pride that he championed.

I stand in solidarity with the family of late President Buhari during this difficult time. I pray that Almighty Allah comforts them and grants them the strength to navigate this challenging period.

“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire future generations of Nigerians.”

Another politician, Prof. Rufa’i Ahmed Alkali, who was the former Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs also said “It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that I extend my heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Mrs. Aishatu Muhammadu Buhari, and the entire family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on the sad passing of one of Nigeria’s most iconic leaders and statesmen.”

He said that ex-President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with unwavering commitment, courage, and a deep sense of patriotism across different areas of our national journey.

“From his military service to his two-term civilian Presidency, he consistently demonstrated a fierce dedication to discipline, national integrity, and anti-corruption.

His legacy will remain etched in the annals of our nation’s history.

“This is indeed a moment of national mourning and sober reflection, as we remember a man who gave his all, in the service of our dear country.

He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, modesty, and principled leadership that will continue to inspire generations of Nigerians.

Nigeria has indeed lost a leader, a patriot, and a symbol of national conscience. I pray, may his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

“To Mrs. Aishatu Buhari and the entire family, I pray may Almighty Allah (SWT) grant you the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. I pray, may Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” Prof. Rufa’i Ahmed Alkali prayed.
