The member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra State in the House of Representatives, Hon.Princess Chinwe Clara Nnabuife, has condemned the horrific killing of over ten persons of Ebonyi State origin in Ogboj,i Anambra State and called for a discreet and impartial investigation by the relevant authorities to unravel the circumstances of the mayhem with a view to tracking and apprehendiing the culprits.
The lawmaker at a press briefing at the House Press Corps said that it is with a deep sense of national responsibility that she addresses the horrific killing of over ten Ebonyi State indigenes living in Ogboji town in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
She said that a violent attack occurred during a meeting of the Ebonyi community in Ebonyi in Ogboji in her federal Constituency, resulting in the untimely death of at least ten persons.
She further stated that the victims all of Ebonyi State extraction were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants during what was meant to be a community gathering.
She said, “Let me begin by condemning this horrific act in the strongest possible terms. No Nigerian deserves to be murdered under any circumstances. This is an attack on our collective humanity and must not go unanswered”.
The Anambra lawmaker also stated that based ona preliminary investigation, a conflict occurred and escalated during a meeting of the Ebonyi community, leading to the formation of a splinter group and ultimately the avoidable deaths.
The female lawmaker said that the victims of the unprovoked attack had been evacuated and the injured persons taken to the hospital.
She called on the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Service DSS and the Anambra and Ebonyi State governments to launch a discreet and impartial investigation into the ugly incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
The House member, while praying for the souls of the departed to rest in peace, also appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to provide relief materials to the victims of the attack as well as bereaved families.
