Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday commissioned the reconstructed Abaranje road in Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area of the State.
The Governor assured residents of the state that his administration would fix most of the deplorable roads in the state that needs government intervention.
Sanwo-Olu, who also commissioned Babajide Sanwo Olu (Old Dopemu) Road in Agege Local Government Area noted that his administration is conversant of the needs of the people of the state and he would do his best to provide the basic social infrastructures required by the people.
He, however, added that no part of the state will be neglected in terms of the provision of social infrastructures.
“We will ensure even development in every part of the state, we will leave no area untouched.
“You tell us you want more infrastructure, you assume we will do it, because you believe in our capacity. When our people talk we listen to them.
“We want to make life meaningful for every resident of the state. To reduce traffic around Old Ipaja and improve the economy of the area,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He also used the occasion to campaign for his party, All Progressives Congress APC in the forthcoming local government election slated for next week Saturday, stressing that the performance of his party is a major reason the electorate should vote for the party candidates in the local government election.
Earlier in his speech, the Onikotun of Ikotun, Oba Azeez Asiwaju appealed to Sanwo-Olu to complete the remaining projects in his domain, stressing that the Abaranje road is just a phase one of the three phase projects the state government need to execute in the community, saying they are still expecting the remaining two phases to be completed.
“We still need your assistance to lead this Abaranje road to Akesan community, we need the phase 2 and 3 to be completed, we don’t want it to be left undone.”
Oba Asiwaju also demanded for public secondary schools and primary schools for the community and as well as a flyover at Ikotun road roundabout.
Responding, Sanwo-Olu assured the monarch that all his requests would be acceded to, just as he told the monarch to provide land to build the public schools.
He added that on his way to the road commissioning, he and his team had assessed the dimensions the flyover would take and that work would soon commence on the project.
In his welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, whose office supervised the delivery of the project, said that before the award, Abaranje Road was in a deplorable state. It was narrow, flood-prone, and riddled with failed sections that caused daily hardship for road users and residents. The absence of proper drainage, combined with the growing population and increased vehicular movement, was a challenge for commuters.
Speaking on the condition of the road, Idowu Olaiya, a landlord in the area, said, “Before now, to go out was difficult. The journey from here to Ikotun is just about three minutes if the road is okay but it took almost 30 minutes, which was very unfortunate. I didn’t go out with my car. What type of life was that? After struggling to get money for my life, everything looks miserable.”
