Fire outbreak guts Gas Station, several buildings in Enugu

A fire outbreak on Thursday, razed Klan Energy, a Gas Station located at First Texaco, Abakpa Nike in Enugu State.

The fire outbreak destroyed several buildings around the premises, and it also burnt down a tricycle parked in a hotel nearby.
But only burnt the tires of the discharging truck.

The tragic incident was said to have been caused by a slight malfunction at the gas facility, which led to a major gas leak, which caused the fire.

Daily Champion gathered that the Manager of the facility, whose name was withheld, is said to be the only casualty of the incident.

The men of the Enugu state fire service rapidly came to the incident location to further de-escalate the impact of the fire.

Daily Champion also gathered that there was no explosion of any sort at the facility.

According to an eyewitness at the facility before the incident, the gas station was discharging LPG products from a truck, and the massive leakage happened immediately after the Truck was done discharging, while a disturbing sound was heard at the tank area of the facility.

“The manager then went to check what was wrong, while everyone else fled the scene, he was then caught in the fire and was there till the fire service men arrived.

“He was then taken to the federal orthopedic hospital by motorists around.

“The actual cause of the leakage has not yet been determined, according to one of the workers, the amount of LPG gas discharged in the tank was slightly above the capacity of the tank, others reports say that some hosts for the discharging in the facility was not able to hold the pressure from the discharging truck,” the eye witness said.

Members of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission(NMDPRC) and the Police arrived at the scene later to carry out further investigations.
