FCT: Wike set to commission 17 projects

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the upcoming project inspection and commissioning ceremony, slated to commence from June 10th, will feature high-profile government officials.

According to Wike, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has agreed to commission one project in the satellite town, while the Vice President and the Senate President will also commission projects.

“I can tell you Mr President has agreed to commission one project of the satellite town and then the vice president will commission, and then the Senate President will commission, so all of them will have the need to go to the satellite towns and let the people see them , that for the first time, they can feel the impact of governance from the Federal level and their president and the leadership of the country coming to the satellite towns.
The Executive is involved, the Legislature is involved, and the judiciary is involved”.

Wike disclosed that the commissioning ceremony is designed to allow the people of the satellite towns to feel the impact of governance at the federal level. “I can tell you Mr. President has agreed to commission one project of the satellite town and then the Vice President will commission, and then the Senate President will commission,” he said.

The Minister highlighted the collaboration between the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government in the development of the FCT. He praised the legislature for providing good support, particularly in approving budget requests without delay. “The legislature is giving us very good support… When we present a budget, we mean it. We’re not presenting a budget for presenting sake,” Wike said.

Wike emphasized that the government is committed to implementing the budget as approved by the legislature. He noted that the commissioning ceremony is an opportunity for government officials to see the projects they have approved funding for and to witness the impact of their support.

The project inspection and commissioning ceremony is set to commence on June 10th, marking a significant milestone in the development of the FCT’s satellite towns. The event is expected to showcase the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and its efforts to improve the lives of residents in the territory.

In particular, Wike announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the commissioning of projects in the FCT, starting with the International Conference Centre (ICC) on June 10th. Wike disclosed that a total of 17 projects will be commissioned, with the President commissioning 10 projects, the Vice President commissioning 3 projects, the Senate President commissioning 2 projects, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives commissioning 2 projects.

According to Wike, the commissioning ceremony will begin on June 10th at the ICC, followed by the commissioning of a route from the Gili Sea area interchange to Jahi, Maitama, and Mabushi on June 11th.

Wike expressed gratitude to the President for allocating 10 days for the commissioning of projects, noting that it is unprecedented in the history of Abuja.

The Minister highlighted the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda on the lives of Abuja residents, citing the joy and happiness of children as evidence of the government’s commitment to their well-being. He also praised the legislature for approving budget requests without delay, ensuring that projects are implemented as planned.

Wike revealed that the maintenance of the ICC will be supervised directly by him, with an agreement with Julius Berger to manage and maintain the facility. He emphasized that this approach will ensure that the facility is properly maintained and managed.

On the Sallah celebration, Wike prayed that residents would enjoy the festivities without security breaches and called for unity and cooperation among Nigerians to forge ahead for the country’s benefit.
