AKOR SYLVESTER, Abuja
The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGOF) Surv. Abudulganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin has debunked the rumour of the sale of the office house in Lagos for N8 billion, saying it was a rumour championed by mischief makers.
This is as he disclosed that arrangements has been concluded for the groundbreaking ceremony of a 14-storey building for accommodation and offices for Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF) in Lagos.
Adebomehin, while receiving Magazine presentation and the Conferment of the Golden Legacy of Service Award from the People’s Auditor Magazine at OSGOF headquarters in Abuja said the originators of the rumour came to him, pretending to be friends but with unfriendly motives to tarnish his image.
He said “when they said we sold the house in Lagos we are about to commission for N8b, they came, they didn’t come to me directly, they came as a friendly gist , they said, do you have eight billion naira ? I told them, if I have eight billion naira, I will put in my letter of resignation and go to America. Eight billion Naira is not a small amount of money.
The SGOF further stated that: “Anything that belongs to this office I am not ready to sell it. I want to keep that as legacy. We are going to put up a -14 storey building for accommodation and offices, even if that is the only thing we are able to achieve.
Whatever comes to this office will become a recurring decimal. If it is ten naira we are bringing in, the ten naira will be for eternity. All the achievements under me are dedicated to my directors.
I am a farmer and my bungalow. Everything is not about money, knowledge is the important thing you gain at work”
On the award received from the management of the magazine, the Surveyor General commended the gesture, promising to do more for the people and the country.
At the event, Special Assistant to SGOF Surv. Danladi Abubakar Ebune, appreciated the group for rewarding good works.
He said: “Thank you for recognizing what Surveyor General is doing in Nigeria through his office , it is difficult for you to blow your own trumpet. We are proud of your award, the office improvement with staff is number one in Surveyor Generals Agenda”
Director of Hydrography in OSGOF Surv. Robert Coker, in his vote of thanks said “This Surveyor General has made history, because it is what you have done that others have seen and has brought you to them.
Rather than them writing against you, they have come to commend you. Anybody who wants to progress should know that journalists are a very, very vital component of the success of any organization.
So we want to encourage you with what you have done because this publication will go a long way in portraying the office in good light”.
In his remarks, Head of Department, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Department, Surveyor Azeez Afeez said “ we have some people whose vision is not in line with the Surveyor General.
Their mission is in line with amassing wealth and stealing but SGOF is visionary, focused and wants to do landmark things and write his name in gold.
That is why he started a laudable project. In our own COR area of geo spatial science, we are at par with the international community.
I want to bring to our notice that there are some things that were done in this country 50years ago but this Surveyor General has revived that and is even doing something far far better than that.
“We are delighted that the civil society has seen the truth and the light and no one will come out again and say things in his own personal interest to defame the Surveyor General of the Federation. It is a thing of pride for president to be reading Surveyor Generals achievements .”
When he read SGOF citation , Basah Mohammed from People’s Auditor said “, Peoples Auditor want to show government impact and report it , someone in government whose name has become synonymous with integrity , innovation and excellence in Nigerian Geospatial and Surveying Landscape.
We do not take excellence for granted. Through our impact and institution column, we spotlight individuals whose contribution transcends their titles and redefine what leadership means within public institution “
He said: “ Surveyor General is one such individual today we celebrate the Golden Legacy Service Award in recognition of his visionary leadership, outstanding contribution in geospatial science and unwavering commitment to national development.
Under his stewardship, Nigeria has witnessed remarkable improvement in boundary demarcation , modernization of survey practice and the strengthening of the nation’s geospatial infrastructure.
The award is a statement of national gratitude of your efforts to have enhanced our institution and provided a clear direction for future generation of surveyors , planners and policy makers.
Your legacy is already written. We are proud to be part of the story and thank you for raising the standard”.
