A recent public outburst has drawn criticism from a political observer, Evangelist/Hon Omotoso Banji, the national president of ODUDUWA INTEGRITY ASSOCIATION (OIA), who has rebuked former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for allegedly drawing comparisons between himself and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while condemning the policies of the current administration.
In a strongly-worded statement circulated in the media, Amaechi was reminded that such comparisons are not only inappropriate but historically unfounded. Observers pointed to Tinubu’s legacy as the former governor of Lagos State, describing his administrative achievements as widely respected and instrumental in shaping modern Lagos.
Evangelist/Engr/Hon Omotoso Banji reiterated in his words “Rotimi Amaechi, Bola Tinubu is not your political mate,” the statement read. “When it comes to political strategy, administrative competence, and intellectual depth, Tinubu stands on a different pedestal. He transformed Lagos into a model of governance despite facing strong opposition — even from allies of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.”
The statement further alleged that Amaechi’s tenure as Governor of Rivers State left a legacy marred by political thuggery and economic instability. “For eight years, Rivers State witnessed deep political divisions and setbacks. It is ironic for someone with such a record to condemn Tinubu’s programs.”
Critics also accused Amaechi and others of orchestrating attempts to undermine Tinubu ahead of the 2023 elections, referencing the controversial naira redesign policy. “That policy hurt ordinary Nigerians, not Tinubu. Those behind it will answer to God for the suffering it caused.”
In a final appeal, the statement called on former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to retrace his steps and reunite with the Tinubu-led administration, urging political actors to put Nigeria’s interest first as the country works to recover from economic hardships allegedly inherited from the previous government.
The message concluded: “We are not yet where we should be, but we are no longer where you left us.”
