APC Governors commend Tinubu’s performance

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously commended the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that critics of the present administration have been put to shame by the land mark achievements of the government.

The governors, who said that Tinubu has been vindicated, met behind closed-door in Abuja on Wednesday night to assess the performance of the government as it approaches its mid-term mark in office on May 29.

Among the 20 governors in attendance at the meeting were Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Mohammed Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Hyacinth Alia (Benue) and Usman Ododo (Kogi).

The National Chairman of the APC, Dr.  Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); the Ministers of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo (SAN); and Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris also attended the meeting.

The Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, who briefed journalists after the meeting, said despite the criticism from the opposition block, President Tinubu has been vindicated by the praises from the international community over his positive reforms in Nigeria.

He said: “So we are here to put heads together to congratulate ourselves and congratulate Nigeria on the recent developments. You know at the beginning of this administration, when the President started with the reforms, the opposition was very loud in criticising the policies of the government.

“But today, Mr. President is being vindicated. Gradually, international organisations like the World Bank, and IMF, are now beginning to commend the administration of President Bola for taking bold decisions on embarking on a reform-driven government.

“At the same time, we are here to also see how best to coordinate and encourage the members of our great party and, by extension, Nigeria. Despite all distractions, we are resilient in supporting the government of President Tinubu and putting heads together on how best to serve Nigeria better as a political party”.

When asked whether discussions were also about the Supreme Court judgement which gave autonomy to the Local Governments, Uzodinma said APC is a rule-driven political organisation.

Speaking earlier, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, also said the meeting ended well.

He said, “We’ve come together to reassess the performance of the government as it approaches its midterm. We feel happy to say that the government of APC has done so well. We have a lot to showcase. And we have all agreed that leading up to the mid-point of this administration, we will enlighten Nigerians more about what the government is doing”, he added.
