It was a tragedy in Ogidi, Anambra State, on Wednesday when five siblings died after they allegedly ate some food said to have been poisoned.
The incident reportedly occurred in the home of a 74-year-old retired soldier, Pa Robinson Arinze Aghalu from Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Aghalu, who disclosed this in an interview, said that his wife, who was also affected by the meal was receiving treatment in the hospital at press time.
According to him, the tragedy occurred on Saturday, May 3, 2035, after the children consumed a meal prepared by their mother and began to experience stomach upset which resulted in vomiting, adding that the situation worsened over time leading to their deaths despite efforts to save them.
The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer,DSP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the story, noting that the bodies of the deceased children have been recovered and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
” Meanwhile, the mother of the victims, who also reportedly consumed the same meal, is currently receiving intensive medical care at a hospital and remains in critical condition.
In the course of preliminary investigations, the police obtained samples of the suspected food, which has been forwarded for forensic analysis to determine the actual cause of the deaths.
“Officers are also conducting interviews with residents and other potential witnesses within the neighborhood to gather relevant information that may aid the ongoing investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, has expressed deep shock and sadness over the unfortunate incident.
“The Command wishes the mother a speedy recovery, as her account will be vital in shedding more light on the circumstances surrounding the case.
We hereby assure the public that a thorough and comprehensive investigation is underway, and no stone will be left unturned in uncovering the truth behind this tragic occurrence.

Unfortunately too, the desire of two desperate housewives to win over the love of their husband, who married a third wife and allegedly neglected them, has backfired in Abuja as the women are now nursing injuries resulting from the use of a wrong love portion which they drank to help lure their husband back to their arms.
The women, names withheld, are married to a petty northern trader identified as Mallam Musa Muhammad, and were living together within Dakwa community in the satellite town of Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
Unfortunately, the herbalist, who sold the love portion to the women cannot be traced to reverse the effect of the concoction although they were rushed to a private hospital after ingesting the local herbal aphrodisiac in a bid to win back their husband’s affection after he took a third wife and allegedly ignored their overtures at home. .
According to sources close to the family, the co-wives allegedly consumed the powdered substance known locally as Kayan mata, a traditional mixture of herbs believed to boost sexual appeal, help to attract men to women and increases male desire and potency.
It was gathered that the concoction was intended to rekindle Muhammad’s desire and his interest towards the two women, which had allegedly waned after he took a new bride from Gusau, Zamfara State and was planning to take a fouth wife in keeping with his religious beliefs.
Muhammad told neighbours that he was alerted after spending the night at his third wife’s house and he rushed back home to find his first and the second wives in severe pain.
The two women were allegedly rolling on the floor and were complaining of stomach cramps, burning sensation and butts of vomiting, according to Mohammed who also added that Initial first aid treatment by a local nurse failed to revive the women prompting him to rush them to a private clinic in Madalla, Niger State.
At the hospital, doctors allegedly diagnosed and reported that the women suffered internal organ damage linked to the herbal substance, which was provided by a hawker of herbal mixtures who was their regular supplier.
Mohammed confirmed to newsmen that the two women who later underwent surgery and are recuperating at the medical centre had complained that they were being neglected.
