Lagos LG poll: GAC leader, parliamentarians, others to meet 470 aspirants

Ahead of July 12 local government elections in Lagos State, the Electoral Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State has scheduled a Stakeholders’ meeting for Wednesday, 7th, 2025.

This was contained in a release signed by the Chairman and Secretary State Electoral Committee, Babatunde Ogala SAN and Nurudeen Bamidele, respectively.

The statement read: “The Lagos State APC Electoral Committee has scheduled to hold a Stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday, 7th May,2025, at the State Secretariat on Acme road, Ogba at 10am.

“Those invited to the meeting are Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, the Party Chairmen of the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas – LCDAs, the 3 Serving Senators, all APC serving members of the House of Representatives from Lagos State, all APC members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Apex Leaders in the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas – LCDAs, all the Chairmanship aspirants that have been cleared by the Screening Committee to contest the Primaries, all out-going Council Chairmen and Members of the State Executive Council of the Party.”

Recall that the APC electoral committee had last week cleared 432 chairmanship aspirants out of the 470 that submitted the nomination forms.

The committee disclosed that 38 were disqualified or voluntarily withdrew from the race.

The screening exercise, which was conducted at the party’s Secretariat, took place between Tuesday, April 29 and Friday, May 3.

The disqualifications were primarily due to a lack of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), missing APC membership cards, and falsified secondary school certificates, according to the committee.

The party guidelines stipulated indirect primaries, where executive members across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) will vote on Saturday, May 10.

Disqualified aspirants have an opportunity to file an appeal between Sunday, May 4 and Monday, May 5. Those who wish to contest the outcome of the primaries can submit petitions to the Appeal Committee between May 12 and 13.

A gender breakdown of the aspirants revealed that out of the 470, 411 were male and 59 were female, reflecting growing female participation in local politics.
