Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to academic excellence, the Queen’s College Old Girls Association (QCOGA) successfully hosted a transformative capacity-building workshop for teachers at Queen’s College, Yaba. The initiative, held on Friday, May 2, 2025, in the school’s assembly hall, aimed to bolster teaching capacity and elevate learning outcomes for students.
The insightful training session was expertly facilitated by Mrs. Modupe Adeyinka-Oni, a distinguished educationist and proud alumna of Queen’s College, and her dedicated team from the i-Africa Foundation. The workshop provided educators with innovative strategies and practical tools designed to enhance classroom delivery and foster deeper student engagement.
The event was chaired by Chief (Ms.) Amiehi Tolulope Ighodalo, Chairperson of the QCOGA Board of Trustees, who underscored the Association’s unwavering dedication to the continuous professional development of the teaching staff. In her address, Chief Ighodalo emphasized that empowering teachers is paramount to both restoring and sustaining the esteemed legacy of academic excellence that defines Queen’s College.
Ighodalo emphasized the importance of continuous professional development for teachers. “Empowering our educators is the cornerstone of improving the educational standards at Queen’s College. This workshop is just one of the many initiatives we have planned to support our teachers and, ultimately, our students,” she said.
The workshop included hands-on activities that allowed teachers to collaborate and brainstorm on effective teaching methods tailored to the diverse learning needs of their students. Participants were encouraged to share their experiences and strategies, fostering a community of shared learning and growth among educators.
QCOGA remains resolutely focused on its vision to provide strategic support for Queen’s College. These interventions are designed to ensure a conducive learning environment, uphold rigorous academic standards, and cultivate excellence in both leadership and character among the students.
The event presented an opportunity for teachers to meet with experienced educators and educational consultants who brought a wealth of knowledge and innovative teaching strategies to the table. Over 50 teachers from various departments participated, engaging in interactive sessions that covered a range of topics including classroom management, digital literacy, and curriculum development.
One of the facilitators highlighted the necessity of adapting teaching methods to embrace technology. “In today’s world, integrating technology into education is essential. Teachers need to be equipped with the skills to leverage digital tools that enhance the learning experience for their students.”
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the practical skills gained from the sessions. “I’ve learned new ways to engage my students and make learning more This workshop has revitalized my passion for teaching,” remarked one of the participants, a mathematics teacher at Queen’s College.
The QCOGA plans to make the capacity-building workshop an annual event, with future sessions focusing on specialized subjects and advanced teaching techniques. The association is also exploring partnerships with local educational institutions to further expand the scope of professional development available to teachers.
