The Zixton Old Students Association (ZOSA) has given back to its alma mater in a grand way, commissioning a series of projects worth over ₦40 million at Zixton Secondary School, Ozubulu, Anambra State.
The commissioning, led by Hon. Peter Uzokwu, Member of the Federal House of Representatives, was part of activities marking the association’s 3rd Biennial Convention and the outgoing ceremony of its 2019–2025 Executive Committee, held from April 24th to 26th, 2025, at the school premises.
Among the newly completed projects are:
A brand-new perimeter fence
A modern security post
Refurbished and expanded toilet facilities
A newly erected cenotaph in honor of the school’s Co-founder and Proprietor, Hon. V.C. Ikeotuonye
Speaking at the event, outgoing ZOSA Secretary-General and Board of Trustees member, Lady Christy Ray Okoye, disclosed that the projects were funded through voluntary donations from members, emphasizing the collective commitment of alumni towards developing their former school.
“We must always give back to the society that shaped us,” Okoye urged. “We cannot depend solely on government support to maintain institutions that helped form our futures. Before now, the school had no perimeter fence, leading to serious security breaches. Students could easily leave the premises, and thieves frequently broke into classrooms and laboratories.”
She explained that the fencing project alone consumed over ₦20 million, while other facilities, such as a new school gate, the security post, and the refurbished toilets, followed. “The security post is equipped with modern amenities, including a restroom for the guards,” she added.
The convention began with a courtesy visit to the family compound of the school’s founders, where prayers were held at the gravesides of Hon. V.C. Ikeotuonye and his wife. The visit was led by Convention Chairman Mr. Charles Obiatuegwu and the outgoing ZOSA President, Hon. Afam Obi, who were warmly received by Mr. V.C. Ikeotuonye Jr., the founder’s grandson.
The ceremony also featured the conferment of Awards of Excellence on distinguished members, including Amb. Iyom Christy Ray Okoye (daughter of the school’s founders), Dr. Collins Mbanugo (a US-based surgeon), the late Vincent Ikeotuonye, Mr. Ato Arinze, and Engr. Willie Igwe.
Also in attendance were ZOSA President Emeritus, Engr. Eric Igwe; incoming President, Prof. Sabe Nwosu; Mr. Ken Echekwube, among many others.
Founded in 1957 by Hon. V.C. Ikeotuonye and Chief (Mrs.) Christy Ikeotuonye, Zixton Secondary School earned acclaim in the 1960s for its excellence in sports and academics. With this latest gesture, ZOSA continues to honor the legacy of its founders and uplift the next generation of students.
