Easter tragedy: 5 dead, 13 injured as truck rams into celebrants in Gombe
Police in Gombe State have confirmed the death of five persons in a motor accident which occurred on Monday on Tashan Gona road in Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Police said the accident occurred when a truck rammed into a procession of people celebrating the Easter festival.
Thirteen other persons sustained injuries in the accident.
The victims, mostly youths and children were returning from an all night vigil prayer on a mountain.
The driver of the truck was said to have fled the scene , a development which prompted people around to set the truck ablaze.
Abdullahi Buhari, Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe confirmed the accident.
He said: “We recorded an accident at Billiri Local Government after a truck conveying goods from parts of Taraba lost control in Billiri.
“Five persons have been confirmed dead, while others who are injured are undergoing treatment at different hospitals,” he said.
