No fewer than three hundred persons, including adults and children have benefitted from medical outreach organized by a seasoned philanthropist, Kenneth Ebong, PhD under the aegis of Kenneth Ebong Foundation to celebrate Easter in his village Ekput, Ibiono Ibom local government, Akwa Ibom State.
The medical outreach held over the weekend at the premises of the Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Ekput village built and donated to the church by the philanthropist about three years passed by, had 5 medical doctors, 7 nurses, 2 pharmacists, 2 laboratory scientists and 3 medical recorders in attendance.
The medical team known as The Gilead Medical Squad from Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, headquarters IKOT Ebido Oku was led by Dr Charles Mbong and they attended to virtually all medical cases including Malaria and Hypertension which topped the list and typhoid, while others trailed closely behind.
Worried by the high prevalence of malaria cases and attendant casualties among the people, Dr Mbong advised that issue of personal hygiene should not be toyed with, and also people should form the habit of keeping their surrounding clean and free from empty cans of drinks, milk and what have you, that can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, even as he advocated the use of treated mosquito nets.
On the second issue of hypertension which has wrecked havoc on human health in the country causing high toll of deaths, the medical doctor turned politician, gave some tips on how to stay safe by eating low intake of salt in our meals. Secondly, he advised that we should exercise regularly and try to eat balance diet as much as we can, warning that eating balance diet doesn’t mean patronizing expensive food.
Asked if the high rate of hypertension Nigerians are experiencing now could have anything to do with the hard time they are presently passing through, his answer was in affirmative. But according to him, with proper managing of the situation we can stay afloat as tough time will not last forever but tough men do.
“Our Presiding Bishop, Dr David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel Worldwide for saw the hard time coming long ago and taught his members on how to forestall its adverse effects and that’s what is keeping us,” he said.
He poured a flurry of encomiums on the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno PhD on his ARISE AGENDA initiatives which has set aside two days in a month to encourage civil servants to embrace farming full time coupled with his massive empowerment programs wired to put food on the table through the use of brain and brawn.
To this end, he doffed his cap for the organizer and President of Kenneth Ebong Foundation for keying into the ARISE agenda of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno by consistently bank rolling the medical expedition either twice per year for three years running, for his people without expecting any financial and material benefits in return, adding that there is no greater love than this, while praying he will never see lack.
Regretting inability of a budding Akwa Ibom entrepreneur seeing entrepreneurship as a process rather than jumping at it as an event, the MD/CEO of POTENT WORLD GLOBAL LTD and other subsidiaries in oil and gas industry, Kenneth Ebong PhD expressed readiness to partner people of like minds in his community and beyond, to spread his sponsorship portfolio to indigent youth willing to go into Business, Agriculture endeavours, Trade and Skill Acquisition.
“The Easter medical outreach is wider in terms of logistics and other things compared with the one of last year. But even though I may not want to blow the trumpet, the one of the forth coming Xmas will definitely be better and more embracing,” he maintained.
Saying that Dr Ebong is like the mother like son is stating the obvious, because his philanthropic virtue is a direct inheritance from his mother who has always accompanied him to the village in every medical expedition for the love of his people, encouraging him to do more as his capacity carries.
As Easter is a few days away, the resident priest, Pastor Gabriel who identified his greatest challenge since arrival about three years ago, as inability of worshippers to have the servant of God mentality by allowing the word of God to sink into them and create the difference.
On his blueprint for residents of Ekput village and its environ, he expressed optimism that if God tarries he will achieve the purpose for which God made possible by using the indigene in person of Kenneth Ebong PhD to bring the light to the village through establishment of the church. The medical outreach was rounded off on Sunday with the distribution of food items and other materials to widows, children and the vulnerable of the church and immediate society.
