We must be resolute in our commitment to governance, Governor Mutfwang insist

DANIEL DAUDA, Jos

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has challenged office holders to be more determined and resolute in their approach and commitment to governance as they work assiduously for the betterment of humanity in the state.

Governor Mutfwang, who is critical and passionate about political appointees performance and proactiveness in governance acknowledged the time to act is now, saying, “God will not send angels to fix our problems. We must rise and trust Him to make us solution providers.”

The Governor threw the challenge Monday while declared open a week-long annual retreat for the Plateau political appointees, held in Miango Rest home, Bassa local government area.

The retreat which had a theme, ” That Plateau may shine”, commenced on Sunday 9th and will be ended Saturday 15th, February 2025.

The workshop which focused on good governance and the dividends of democracy is a clarion call for all appointees to work together as a team, to take time to reflect, realign, and evaluate the performance of Mutfwang’s administration amidst two years in office.

According to Governor Mutfwang, “every system has its own patterns of behavior, but you can choose to remain true to yourself.

“I have often said: unless we revive our public schools to the highest standards, we have failed. Private schools must not be the yardstick for quality education. Similarly, if our public healthcare system is not strengthened, we have also failed.

“I pray this window of opportunity does not close on us. We must be radical in our commitment to governance and work as if this is our last chance. No postponements. No slumber. No selfishness.

“Progress is built on unity—no one can do it alone. The era of working in silos, creating personal power bases, is over. This is the time to join hands and move forward together.

“So when we say, The time is now, understand that we truly cannot afford to wait. Wherever you serve, rise to the occasion. Stretch yourself, push yourself—because the people are counting on us”, the governor added.

The commissioner ministry of information and communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Ramnap, revealed that the impact of this retreat will, to no small extent, help chart a direction for the state and its people. “It is an opportunity for us to engage in critical thinking and reflection.”

For a better society
