- Says police brutality resurging

The Osun State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has called for transparency and collaboration in the ongoing investigation into the alleged assault of a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Daily Champion reports that some NSCDC personnel on duty allegedly suffered an assault in the hands of some men of the Nigeria Police Force in Osun State.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the Osun CDHR, chairman, Olowu Emmanuel, on Sunday, emphasized that a collaborative approach is essential to ensure fairness and credibility
While expressing concern for the victim, who remains hospitalized following the alleged assault, the group warned that any attempt to conduct a bias investigation would jeopardize public trust and undermine the integrity of the security institutions involved.
The statement read partly, “We call for a collaborative investigation into the matter, emphasizing that any attempt at an independent investigation by any of the institutions may be perceived as biased and will berate the integrity of both security institutions, however, sweeping this matter under the carpet will diminish the credibility of the NSCDC as a security institution and also negatively impact the morale of your personnel.”
The CDHR, however, urged both the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police Force to collaborate on the investigation to ensure justice is served and to prevent further erosion of public trust in security institutions.
Similarly, the CDHR raised serious concerns over the resurgence of police brutality in Nigeria.
