Taking a position to eradicate turberclosis in the state, Ebonyi state government has attracted four (4) portable digital x-ray machines for community TB services from Global Fund through KNCV Nigeria
Commissioner for Health, Dr Moses Ekuma while receiving the items at Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki expressed his happiness over the donation and noted that the importance of the portable digital x-ray machines in the health sector cannot be overemphasized, and promised to make judicious use of the machines
He enumerated the achievements of the present administration in the health sector and said that the huge investment of the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru led to the attraction
The Commissioner recalled that the Global Fund donated 26 motorcycles, including a Hilux Van earlier this year for TB and HIV programmes, and eulogized them for their support to the health sector.
He said, “As you all know, there is no government that can do it alone. So, we still need more support from you and other partners. ”
Contributing, the Permanent Secretary, Dr Lawrence Ezeogo who narrated their experience when they move x-ray patients from the hinterland to the State capital, applauded them for the machines which he said have made the reverse to be the case.
Dr. Ezeogo assured that they would do everything possible to assist the radiographers to make sure that the job is perfectly done.
Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) Zonal TB Officer, Dr. Adu Ufuoma said that the machines would be moving from community to community so as to reach the hard-to-reach areas to detect TB cases.
He disclosed that the four mobile machines have four radiographers that would handle them.
On his part, the programme manager, National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control, Chief Samuel Nwite, and the radiographers took time to explain the parts of the machines
