The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has emphasized the importance of positive role models, in a bid to steer Nigerian students away from internet fraud and financial crimes.
Addressing students from Val De Mauris Academy, Abuja, during a study tour of the Commission’s headquarters weekend, Olukoyede encouraged students to adopt integrity and pursue positive influences.
Representing the EFCC Chairman, Assistant Commander Aishat Mohammed, Head of the Commission’s Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, spoke to the students on the value of surrounding themselves with good role models.
According to Mohammed, “Integrity is what you do when no one is watching. Having good role models will draw you to the right contacts and influences, helping to remove you from any form of internet offense.”
Assistant Commander Chris Oluka, Head of EFCC Communication and Creative Unit, further advised students to dedicate their creative energy to constructive activities.
“The internet was meant for the good of humanity—research, academics, and accurate information gathering. If used wrongly, it can lead to crime, and the EFCC will not hesitate to take action.
“Any crime, no matter who is involved, is corruption, and we are committed to fighting it,” he warned.
Oluka encouraged the students to use social media and other online tools to further their education and personal growth, emphasizing that a disciplined approach online would help them differentiate between positive and negative influences.
Assistant Superintendent of EFCC, ASE I Ogunjobi Olalekan, echoed this message, urging the students to be hardworking and focused.
He highlighted the vast potential for students to succeed in technology and computer-based careers, citing roles such as programmers, forensic and financial analysts, and developers as viable pathways.
During the event, two students, Odimba Ikenna Ugochukwu and Sunday AnekeAnd Sophia, were awarded mobile phones as prizes for winning the EFCC’s Quiz Competition.
Additionally, students Khadijah Kabiru Bakan and Faheem Goodluck Hussein were honoured as EFCC Ambassadors, reflecting their dedication and exemplary conduct.
