…As Illegal structures face demolition In Agulu, Nnobi, Nnewi, Ozubulu Other cities

Landlords in Agulu ,Nnobi and Nnewi and Ozubulu among other places marked for road infrastructural develpment in Anambra are now shivering with fear as illegally errected buildings along the roads face demolition.
Sources who disclosed this to newsmen in Anambra, on Sunday, said about one thousand houses and shops in the affected areas, especially Nnewi ,the industrial cum commercial town of Anambra , planlessly doted with illegal structures along the roads, might go without compensations.
The landlords are said to be holding nuctournal and diurnal meetings over the development with the view to allegedly arrive at a plan to reach out to Government to shelve the road dualization project which contract had already been awarded..
According to sources, this fear of losing their illegal structures without compensations and rent collected newly from tenants on the properties is said to have kept the landlords from advising their tenants to vacate the illegal buildings and shops marked for demolition before commencement of work on the roads.
It was gathered that despite the alleged pressure being mounted on the state government to defer the Agulu- Nnobi-Nnewi Road project and the Nnewi-Ozubulu -Okija Roads construction by unidentified persons, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo had earlier on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 got approval of the State Executive Council for the road project.
The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) held its 33rd meeting on October 29, 2024, during which time the council approved several key infrastructural projects among which included ‘Dualization and Construction of Nwagu Agulu to Nnobi to Nnewi Road: 18.6 km, awarded to Lebtech Constructions Ltd at ₦33.557 billion, with a 12-month project timeline. Dualization and Construction of Nnewi-Ozubulu-Okija Road: 16.51 km, awarded to Ferotex Construction Company at ₦30.918 billion, with an 18-month project timeline’, according to sources.
Sources said Govrtnor Soludo would not sucumb to any form of pressure to abandon the road project.
“Those who doubt sincerity of the state government on completing the project as scheduled come back to praise the government. Soludo has completed other projects on time. What people should do is support the Governor to serve the prople.”,, Tobechukwu, a clothes dealer at Ozubulu said.
