A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Gbolahan Yishawu has described Saturday’s State congress as a success, saying Lagos has positioned itself ready with internal democracy for 2023 general elections.
He believes the successful conduct of the primary in the State had laid the foundation for the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s ambition come 2023.
The lawmaker who is representing Eti-Osa II stated this shortly after the primary that took place at Mobolaji Johnson Arena Stadium in Lagos State.
The Lagos congress was conducted by the Chairman of Lagos APC congress committee, Adebyo Adelabu (Pekelemes). who led other members of his team from the national body of the party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s officials led by Sheu AbdulWahab were on hand to monitor the election.
According to Adelabu the total number of accredited delegates screened for the Congress was 1,615.
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was on ground for the Congress debunked the conduct of any other congress in the State, saying he was not aware of any other congress in the State.
Yishawu, who is the Chairman House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning pointed out “It is a demonstration of internal democracy as you can see here everything is peaceful, very orderly, and the rules and regulations of the party is being played according to the constitution of the party and we are upholding alll democratic and pragmatic Stakeholders of today, internal democracy is working in the All Progressive Congress party.
“Every election is a competition, there will be winners, there will be losers, the only thing now that the winners should be gracious and be humble so that people that did not win should work together, next time it can be their turn too.
“We are one family, if people come out for election, one of them will win at the end of the day, there can not be two of them, whatever reason whether it is by through primary, whether it is qualifications or whether it is by consensus, one person will win, and that is what is happening here.
“We give kudos to our party in Lagos for being able to carry out this process successfully to the satisfaction of the majority, you can see the way people are screaming, they are hailing, this is the entire delegates. Have you heard anybody complain? With that we believe democracy has come to stay.
“For us in Lagos State the Congress shows that we are one and united and we can galvanized ourselves and by God’s grace, our wishes to have our leader Aisiwaju bola Tinubu of our presidential candidate of the party come 2023.
“As a public servant, we are there consistently, very important, service, service, service, let the people come first, let the party comes first that is the most important thing because all we do is to serve the people and is the opportunity to serve the people we should not squander it, we should make our mark by ensuring we are humane and deliver that service selflessly.”
