There are strong indications that the outgoing Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda will emerge as the Deputy Speaker of the House in the 10th Assembly.

Reliable sources from the State House of Assembly confided in our correspondent that the leadership of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC in the State had penciled down Meranda to succeed Hon Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, a Senator-elect from Lagos Central.

Hon Meranda got elected as a lawmaker in 2015 from Apapa constituency I and was one time the Chairman House Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

She is currently one of the three female legislators in the State Assembly. Meranda is known for few words but made impactful contributions within her taciturn outlook.

A Lagosian per excellence Mojisola Lasbat Meranda was born to a noble family of Late Chief T. A Lawal Akapo (Ojora of Lagos) and Princess M. A. Lawal-Akapo of the royal families of Ojora, Aromire, Onitana, Oloto, and Oniru royal families.

She had her primary education at St. Charles Nursery and Primary school and later on Randle primary school. She attended post primary education at Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar school and Ansar-Ud-Deen secondary school both in Surulere where she held the post of the library prefect and secretary press club, she obtained the West African school certificate (WASC) examination in the college.

A highly adventurous scholar, young Mojisola Lasbat Meranda proceeded to Lagos State Polytechnic. Later went on to NIIT where she obtained a certificate in Software Development (Network Engineering). She also obtained a BSc in Public Administration from the Lagos State University (LASU) and Masters of Public and International Affairs (MPIA) from University of Lagos.

She later joined the service of the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as the Personal Assistant to the SSA on Information Technology.

Despite being reserved, the Lagos State House of Assembly correspondents Association (LAHACA) honoured her as the most media friendly female lawmaker in 2019. Against all odds, she emerged as the Chief Whip of Lagos State House of Assembly 2020
